Support Malawi have built 4 schools, 2 primary and 2 secondary which we run hand in hand with the government as grant aided schools. Our schools consistently produce high pass rates and selection to national and district schools, colleges and universities.Because our care and commitment to the children enrolled on our projects is long-term, we guarantee to support them until they graduate. We are hugely proud of the farm at Namisu. With 565 children to feed Monday to Friday from our Primary School , there is no shortage of little mouths to feed. We use conservation agriculture as one of the farming methods and are already seeing an increase in harvest yields. Along with the staple food of maize, we grow a huge variety of fruit and vegetables for our children to enjoy including bananas, cabbages, onions, beans, beetroot, carrots…..and, as you can see from our photographs…..tomatoes by the wheelbarrow load! Lead farmers being trained in the theory of conservation agriculture and how they will benefit from learning the new methods of farming.

June 2024

June sees a very busy month at Support Malawi’s Skills Training Centre, Namisu. We are currently training individually selected lead farmers in conservation agriculture. We train 30 lead farmers per group in all aspects of soil management, seed planting pits, compost making, moisture retention and pest control. All the methods we teach are sustainable, organic and use resources already available to the farmers. These lead farmers then take the knowledge they have gained and select 25 local farmers from their own communities and teach them the methods they have learned. In total, after 2 years, our training will have reached more than 3,600 rural farmers

Support Malawi are pleased to share photos and stories from the beneficiaries of our adult literacy and numeracy classes. We are running the first course attended by 20 adults for an hour each day. They travel from local communities, to join the lessons and learn how to read and write. They are supported by loyal staff from Support Malawi, librarian George Banda and primary teacher, Briton Mpingo. One of the learners, Bessy, said “This is indeed a wonderful opportunity for us to learn how to read and write. With these skills, we will be able to support our families better now than we are currently managing.
