Meet the Children

See the Smiles You Help Create

Support Malawi has been assisting orphan and vulnerable children in Southern Malawi for 25 years.

In that time, we have been privileged to help tens of thousands of children finish their education. Today, we have more than 3,000 (an ever changing number!) beautiful children under our umbrella of care.

So, what does our care look like?

Our care and support is long-term. Once a child is enrolled onto one of our programs, they receive a hot meal after school at one of our centres, school fees are paid, uniforms and day-clothes are given and they have access to healthcare, after-school lessons and, equally important, love and encouragement.

The majority of the children are orphans who are living with guardians who are already struggling to feed their own children. The addition of an extra mouth to feed pushes them further into poverty and the associated hunger that brings with it. Very often the only hot meal that the children eat is when they attend one of our centres.

Simon was one of our resident children at Namisu and was in the top 3 of his class at primary school. He was selected to attend Lunzu Secondary School where he continues to make his mum, and Support Malawi family, proud.

When our boarder children at Umodzi requested some land to plant their own maize, we were only too happy to oblige. Pictured below are some of the proud young farmers dwarfed by the maize they have tended and grown themselves. Well done everyone!

One of our projects

One of our projects, the Dawn Centre, is a very special place indeed. It is a purposely built residential home and school for 45 children with disabilities and is a place of smiles, inspiration and hope. Children with physical and learning disabilities live side by side and whilst some attend the Dawn Centre School, others attend the main stream school across the road at Namisu.
